MANALAPAN — The Chabad's founders point to the good deeds of their members as proof they succeeded in their plan 20 years ago to weave Jewish heritage into the fabric of life in Manalapan.

"Our goal was to inspire the broader Jewish community in connecting with their Jewish heritage by increasing the observance of mitzvahs (good deeds) on their own personal levels," founder Rabbi Boruch Chazanow said.

"When we first came, we were asked if we were here to impose Yiddishkeit (Judaism) on others," he said. "Our response was, we came to expose Yiddishkeit, not to impose it."

School District - Ganvening FROM the Yeshivas?

Report: Lakewood misspent U.S. funds

Aid intended for private schools

LAKEWOOD — School district administrators appear to have violated federal law when they spent more than $1 million of money earmarked for nonpublic school students on their public school counterparts, an expert hired by the Board of Education has found.

The consultant blamed district and state Department of Education officials for not catching the funding inequity, which — while figures were not immediately available — has been occurring in the district for at least the past few years.

EXERCISE - GOOD FOR THE JEWESSES?

[Thank you Nechama & Proexercise, today's tag-team of guest bloggers - KollelVeib]

Speaking of how Lakewood has changed:

What is with the trend of women excercising in public groups - Curves, Trim Gym, etc. glorifying the whole process like in the surrounding culture. Yes, by all means, work out, it keeps you healthy, you will have more energy, and I am not saying there is anything wrong with wanting to look good. But is this current trend consistent with Torah values?

Nechama,

I used to go to one of the establishments you mentioned but stopped because my husband felt that there was a connection between the type of woman who went to these places and a certain lack of eidelkeit and tznius, or more directly a desire to look good "for the gas" V'Hamaivin Yovin.

I happened to have disagreed, but stopped going in the interest of Shalom Bayis (I have a treadmill and bike at home now). Why does a woman have to be accused of (excuse my bluntness) trying to be alluring just because she wants to stay healthy or (dare I say it!) just look good for her own SELF image and SELF esteem.

I recognize my feelings may not be that of the majority, but let me ask this: Is there anyone out there (I am referring to women, I am interested in the opinions of my own kind) who feels that as a woman, you are not entitled to go work out in a gym and come back home without a federal case being made of your midas HaTznius or lack thereof. Can't a workout be just a workout?

ARE WE WOMEN ONLY GUESTS?

[Thank you ex-Lakewooder for authoring today's post. Remember everyone - feel free to post off-topic, your comment may be tomorrow's post. - KollelVeib]

Girls growing up in Lakewood, living in the shadow of the yeshiva?

I grew up in Lakewood. My 8th grade teacher said, "you have to realize, we are just the guests here. the real people are the kollel yungeleit." What kind of a message is that to give to a 13 year old, that they don't really matter?

KOLLEL - RUINING OUR FUTURE??!!

[Thank you anonymous for authoring today's post. Remember - your comment today may be my post tomorrow - KollelVeib]

Kollel is not made for everyone. What was wrong with our fathers that went to work to support their families? They were more sincere, Frum and Aidel than many of today's Kollel yungeleit.

This whole Kollel idea has gotten out of hand. It is ruining our future generation. You cannot force anyone to be what they are not, just so that they fit into the mold. These things don't work.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very chushuva Yungeleit in Kollel, but where are all the new Dayanim and Roshei Yeshivos that should me emerging from all this Kollel business?

OLD VAAD - TIME HAS COME?

[Thank you LakewoodPerson for authoring today's post. To all readers, feel free to create a comment which may be used for tomorrow's post]

Does anyone have any details about the new Va'ad that is supposedly being formed. A little competition would probably be a healthy thing.

Perhaps with the right leadership, the Lakewood police would learn to respect our community a little more.

Details anyone???
