LAKEWOOD — A local government critic has filed recall petitions against three Township Committee members, though two of those committeemen appear to be shielded from such an effort by recall regulations. Yehuda Shain filed petitions Friday with the township clerk against Mayor Meir Lichtenstein and Committeemen Robert W. Singer and Raymond G. Coles. Lichtenstein and Singer are likely ineligible for recall, though the petition against Coles satisfies recall guidelines, according to the clerk's office.
Shain says he expects the petition against Lichtenstein to be rejected, but that he was simply putting the committeeman on notice. "I put my name to everything, and I'm not afraid to be the one out front,'' said Shain, who says he has numerous supporters who are keeping a low profile.
